Cosimo Piccardi started to work on Appunti per un nuovo viaggio in Italia while he was
already living abroad, aiming to reflect upon how both italian and foreigners deal with
our cultural and artistic heritage nowadays. Three different moments in the history of
the Journey to Italy are compared here. The texts and the iconography of the nineteenth
century Grand Tour, Italy during the years following the so-called ‘Miracolo econo-
mico’, witnessed by family pictures, and the present situation.
Playing with the superposition of these temporal planes, the projeject attempts to reflect
upon traveling and tourism with an eye to the enviromental, cultural and social issues of
our time.
